Dispatches from Powerviolence: Dillinger Post Album Teaser

If you do your powerviolence research as much as we do, you would have come across little tidbits of info about Dillinger Escape Plan's new album in the works. Though still tentitively untitled, the Dillinger guys hit the studio June 1st with Steve Evetts at the helm. Since we're all completely salivating for just a taste of what's to come, they were nice enough to post up a teaser video of the work on the record (which you can see below)... In the band's own words, "our album is going to slaughter everything you think we are capable of on every level." That's a pretty giant statement, so I really hope it lives up to it... We all know their fan base was divided on the last one (I, for one, will go on record and say I have loved everything this damn band has put out and done), so hopefully this next viciously melts all our faces and brings us back together... just like Public Enemy and Anthrax did so many wondeful years ago...

So here is that teaser video I'm talking about:

Get the Fuck Back Together, Idiots: Apocalypse Hoboken

Even though Apocalypse Hoboken has been known to periodically get back together for a single show (their last being at the Abbey Pub on December 12, 2006, which was radical, by the way), the band is officially broken up, and that just plain sucks. Through a large number of releases, these chaps have made many a young punk rocker happy, myself included. Not only did AH bring killer music about all sorts of topics, they put on a very lively, and always interesting, live show. When I saw them last time, for example, Todd pulled my friend Kenny on stage and covered his face with lotion before pulling out a bag full of hair (we don't know where from) and pasting it on the poor kid's face in the shape of a beard. Oh, Todd, you're so fucking weird.

Anyway, this is a call out to this local punk rock outfit to get back together. I am sure the band reads this site all the time, so I know they'll get the message. Apocalypse Hoboken was one of my favorite bands when I was younger, and it just hurts so much to know they're gone.

Here they are playing that last show:

Featured Live Show: The Red Chord / Job For a Cowboy / Psyopus

4.29.07 - The headliners were Cannibal Corpse and Behemoth, but this isn't why I skipped on down to this show on a Sunday night... it was because of the ridiculously powerviolence triple-opener listed above.

I made it there to see the last half of Psyopus' set (thanks to shitty time listing by Ticketmaster), but was more than treated to the calculated, spastic assault I was hoping for... If you haven't already caught these guys live, seriously do yourself a favor and figure out a way to now. Everybody loves a sonic assault, fully fused with beserk energy!

Job For a Cowboy was next, and right from the get-go busted in the heads of the entire audience. Familiar with their EP work, I was stoked (enough to use the word 'stoked' right now) for them to take the stage. The only thing I felt kind of let down about was that most of their set seemed to be new material... And it seemed like a good portion of the audience had somehow gotten their hands on tracks from their upcoming album, because they were already yelling along with them. But regardless of that (which actually wasn't a problem, since the new tracks are fuckin sick), their set was incredible.

Then it was time for my own personal main event... The fuckin Red Chord... Right out the gate, the guys of the Chord tore my face off. Their set was half from "Fused Together in Revolving Doors," half from "Clients," with one new track thrown in, and the pummeling never stopped til the final breakdown. I thought they fuckin killed, but it seemed like some of the crowd wasn't digging on their sense of humor in between songs (i think it takes a higher intelligence - like mine - to appreciate "Who loves sandwiches? .. Who loves ravioli??" yelled in a cookie-monster vocal at the crowd). Guy and company are one of the most incredible live shows around, and I can't say enough about the whole package of this band... from the albums, to the videos, to the shirts, to the vibe, to the tracks, etc... They're rewriting how this scene should run. Thank them.

Oh, yeah, and then Behemoth went on, they are silly... i can't believe people were into the goofy corpse paint, and their foreign accents which completely demolished any 'heavy badassness' they were trying to convey.... Ugh, get a real job. And I have nothing bad to say about Cannibal Corpse, I respect their longevity... but it's like AC/DC, the secret is don't change anything about the formula... But I'm just kinda over it.

Powerviolence Design: Ryan Russell Photography

I don't know why Ryan Russell isn't THE go-to man for musician portraits and band photos... he's been a favorite of mine for a while now, right next to Patrick Hoelck, and is finally getting his due in major publications. Not only has he mastered these types of photos, his live band shots and general subject photography are air-tight as well. The man has a perfect eye for lighting and color, even some how fusing his black and white shots with an vibrance that's second to none.

Hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, and vehemently taking a powerful stance against digital photography, he deserves the utmost attention in this important independent craft. I can't say enough good things about his work, and honestly just can't wait to see more... but enough of my ego-massaging... see for yourself:

Get The Fuck Back Together, Idiots: The Suicide File

I came upon these guys right when the news was coming of their breakup... not to be cliche, but I feel like I was fucking robbed. It's a shitty moment when you discover a band that really gets a reaction out of you, and when you investigate more on them, you find out that they've decided to fold up... Assholes.

If you aren't already wise to the way of The Suicide File, they were a group that (unlike the ridiculous amounts of other bands trying to do the same) flawlessly merged the punk sound with what, in the late 90's, we came to know as the hardcore sound. Intensity and controlled aggresion were the two most effective ingredients of their arsenal... More aggresive than the likes of The Bronx, and just slightly less blues/groove oriented, they still pack a solid heart of garage rock swagger juiced up on speed and fire. One listen to anything off their numerous EP's or their dynamite album 'Twilight', you'll see exactly what I mean, and feel just as cheated that decided to call it quits... once again, thanks assholes.

So Sick It Hurts: The Acacia Strain - "The Dead Walk"

Brutal. Simply brutal... Looking at pics of these guys, you wouldn't expect it, but this album brings a refreshing blend of churning intensity and massively aggresive vocals. They dropped their lineup from three guitars to two on this record (something which critics are divided on) but I honestly feel it just cuts down the fat, and creates a more raw slab of violence... Not only is it ridiculously heavy, but there are so many memorable one-liners sprinkled in the lyrics. Things like "If I were you, I'd pack my bags, and get the fuck out of Dodge", "And I need you like I need a fucking hole in my head", and "I don't mean any disrespect, but I hope you are buried alive" all become stand-out moments in the songs, and stick with you after their over. I have to admit, I sought out this band after seeing The Red Chord live, and Guy, the singer, was wearing one of their shirts... and I'm sure as hell glad I did, because they brought exactly what I was looking for -- an album that busts your head in like a hammer.

no shit... powerviolence.

The Acacia Strain - "4x4" (live)

Featured DVD and Book: American Hardcore

I apologize if this is old news to some of you out there... but I honestly feel compelled to throw this up and give it more screen time. I picked up the book ("American Hardcore: A Tribal History" by Steven Blush) almost three years ago and quite possibly have read it three or four times over in that span. The reason this book is so damn magically special, besides the fact that it's packed to the brim with information, is that it's pretty much the first to ever tackle this subject fully -- the American youth response to the dwindling of the 70's punk pioneers, and the surge of yuppie-ism gaining momentum. More specifically, it chronicles the '80 - '86 rise of the original "hardcore" within our fifty states.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a boring "this happened, then this happened" kind of retelling... the history is retold by the actual people who lived it. Sure there's Blush as a 'quasi-narrator' (nicely set in bold font, in case you forget which part is him talking) to keep to keep it cohesive, but the bulk of the content is everyone who meant something to the movement putting in their two cents on whichever topic the chapter was highlighting. And it definitely cuts deep, it covers everything from specific bands, to hotbed areas of the country, to the agenda, to the fashion, to the shows, etc...

Honestly, this combo means so much to me because early '80s hardcore has to be my all-time favorite genre or 'style' of music (ie. Black Flag, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Minor Threat, Minutemen, etc)... and frankly, the lack of attention paid to it in the realm of music history really pissed my shit off. Any book or documentary I picked up before these were all the same, "Iggy and Lou Reed were on to something, then New York birthed punk rock at CBGB's, then England exploded with the Pistols, Clash, Damned and such, then a post-punk movement grew out of the ashes, watering things down by "getting experimental" ... then according to them it seems the world stopped for a bit... and suddenly, oh no, here's Nirvana! And it's some mystery how that happened. Get it together assholes, quit skipping over one of the most pure, radical, and important movements in our short musical journey on this planet.

So, anyway... to my delight, this book spawned a documentary, made by the same people. I really really wanted this to be the end all be all of my favorite documentaries, but when i saw it opening night up here in NYC, I was slightly (and I emphasize 'slightly') disappointed. But in a good way of sorts, if that makes sense... I mean, what did I expect, if you really wanted to capture all of this info in a documentary, it would have to be 12 hours long or something. So long story short, I loved it to death, but I see how it could seem they tried to cram as much info as possible into two hours. Which leads me to the DVD, and why it's featured... Rabidly purchasing this as well, the day it came out, the special features totally revived everything I hoped the movie would be. Swelling with more content, I couldn't have been more pleased.... So If you missed it in theaters, pick up this DVD now, and bop on down to your local book sellers and get a major dose of powerviolence... in book form!

Here's the trailer, if you need more convincing:

Dispatches From Powerviolence: Ferret Signs PTW

This is turning into a damn new column festival! I love it... Here's a new one, a column centering around newsworthy items that we find to be utterly powerviolence. ya dig?

And for the first round (and I know it's a little late, but deal with it) I wanted to throw out a tasty nugget of news from the recent past... Ferret Records signing Poison the Well! Lemme clarify why I am jazzed by this, Ferret has always been a sleeper favorite for me in regards to labels, and PTW also has been a mainstay in my collective musical arsenal, so the merging of these two powerviolence staples can't mean anything but tightness. If you're tuning in to these two for the first time, PTW's Ferret album has been released about a month ago, and frankly, it's pretty damn decent... sure it didn't grip me right out the gates like some past offerings, but I'm sure this one is bound to grow on me. I think I'm also just glad that PTW has decided to shake themselves free from the major label grasps and bring it back down to an indie with intense cred. They're just not the band to pump out radio-friendly diddies for multi-millions.... and i like it that way.

So I guess only time will tell how fruitful this marriage will be... but i do know i will definitely be keeping my eye on it from now on... Here's a little live jingle to wet the palate:

Poison the Well - "Slice Paper Wrists" (live)

Powerviolence Design: The Red Chord Tour Posters

Being that us cats over here at the powerviolence camp love to flirt in the design world, I thought it only fitting to add ANOTHER new column to the list... so this time we're tackling gnarly design in our magical powerviolence world (be it show posters, album art, merch/clothing design, etc etc.) ... So let the fun begin!

First off, I stumbled upon these show posters online, and thought up this column... so feast your eyes on some powerviolence in graphic design form!

The fuckin' sweet one:

The ok, but just ok one:

Make Another Album, You Jerks: Dillinger Four

Once again, a new column for our powerviolence readers.... This time, instead of crying out for reformation, we're calling for bands that are still with us to get their shit together and get back to work!

First off, my target is Dillinger Four... Damn it, can these jerks write a song that isn't screamingly catchy and doesn't completely fill me with angsty self-impowerment??? We had a good run together for a bit, with them pumping out an LP every other year, but im afraid they've postmarked us into a good five year dryspell in the album department. And the only D4 breath of life is coming from random compilation discs or a smattering of random midwest live shows... I know there's the " 'CIVILWAR' album coming out sometime this year" rumor going around, but Paddy, please... please tell us it's true. Your bulletins on myspace only kind of suppress the thirst for more creativity from your camp...

Found You, Asshole: Genghis Tron

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I found this three-piece on last.fm early today, and thought I would try and get the word out on them. They probably don't really need it, since they are signed to Relapse Records and probably have a pretty big following already, but I found them on the internet box, and that's what this section is all about. So anyway, even though they look like total nerds, GT brings an interesting mix of grind and electronics to the table, and this isn't really done in a normal cybergrind kind of way. It's set up more or less with the usual grindcore insanity and almost IDM-like breaks and interludes, although I do believe all drums are programmed. Pretty gnarly, if you ask me. They are also currently on a tour with The Red Chord, Through the Eyes of the Dead, and All Shall Perish. That's saying something, since all those bands will slay any listener. That's right, I said "slay." At any rate, try giving them a listen, but be warned: you might have a chubby all day afterward.

Found You, Asshole: Bomb the Music Industry!

I don't even know how I stumbled across this "band"... but damn it, I'm sure as hell glad I did. The word band is in quotes because BtMI! are really a musical collective at best. Shockingly, some of the "band-sounding" tracks on their three full-lengths were done alone by the lead songwriter, Jeff Rosenstock (who you might have heard of from The Arrogant Sons of Bitches). From reading up more on this 'group', I have learned they literally piss the DIY punk ethic from every orifice... which, quite frankly, is a refreshing change. What I'm refering to is the distributing of their three albums for free download on their site and their label's site (Quote Unquote Records). Not only this giant middle finger to the music industry, but they also bring paint and stencils to their shows so fans can make their own shirts afterwards, and offer a chance for fans to hop on stage with the guys if they learn a song and bring their own instument... fuckin a.

So I wanted to throw these guys onto the list to try and place even a shread of the powerviolence spotlight on these cats. They're dropping a new album on July 31st on Asian Man Records (remember those assholes??) and are going on a three week June mini-tour in the Midwest and North East... so hop on that shit when it blows through your bigtop.

Important Moments in Powerviolence: GG on Springer

What a delightful morsel of powerviolence we have for you today!! ... Pull up a chair, grab some snacks, shit on the floor, whatever -- this is gonna be a long one. This is actually the whole 42 min Jerry Springer episode where GG is the guest of honor... Watch as everyone's favorite Troubled Troubador, tries his damndest to defend his views on rape, survival of the fittest, beating down people, sex on stage, and the war that is everyday life...

This was one of the few media appreances that he left before his untimely demise... but a quasi-important one in a way. Watch the tape close, and know that GG was brought on buy the Dad in the second act of the show, because the father didn't like that his daughter loved GG's music. This was also the first time that the 17 year old fan was seeing/meeting her idol... But in true Shakespearean fashion, the audience and the father do nothing in the way of swaying GG's views, BUT the girl fan that comes on the show ends up being his last girlfriend ever! (talk about a fuckin romantic post, today!) ... Also, on the eve of GG’s last performance ever, rumor has it that he broke down and proposed marriage to this girl, something he swore he would never do again after his first marriage. But alas, it wasn't meant to be, for in less than 36 hours, he was dead after an OD... Righteous!

So in honor of our friendly nieghborhood Murder Junkie... "Bend over baby, here comes my foot!"

Get the Fuck Back Together, Idiots: Hot Water Music

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I miss you, HWM. You guys always brought the rock. I miss watching you guys knowing that even though I was completely wasted, you were more wasted. What's the deal? People like me need you in their lives. Remember how you used to say you were breaking up all the time or post a show as your last and then play said show and at the end tell everyone you love this too much so you weren't going to actually break up now? Remember that big ass run-on sentence I just wrote? So what if three of you started The Draft? The Draft sucks. And now poor Chuck's all solo about it, which is fine, but it's just not the same. I cried when I heard about you deciding to end it all. Alright, I exaggerated that, but I was pretty bummed. Breaking up was very unpowerviolence of you, and you can quote me on that.

Just get some beers, pick up your instruments, and start jamming again. I know you want to.

Hot Water Music: Remedy

So Sick It Hurts: Destroyer Destroyer- "The Dead Sleep Like Us for a Reason"

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This album pretty much kicks the shit out of every other record ever created. Destroyer Destroyer hail from Oklahoma City, and they deliver an insane dose of techgrind that pushes the audio limit to new boundaries. The music is obviously extremely heavy, but the vocals and the technicality of everything really make sure you take notice. They are certainly more memorable than most grind bands out there.

As soon as you turn this motherfucker on, you're greeted by wailing screams and intense growls. As said, it's got a good dose of technical guitar work and has a few of the usual "techy" interludes, but the band never loses sight of being as punishing as humanly possible. There is plenty of down-tuned chugging that you can get your dance on to, so you don't have to be worried about that. We all know some bands get way to technical, and you just end up bored. Not here.

You need this album. That's all there is to it. Go get it. Seriously. Right now.

Take a look at the video of them live. (The audio's pretty bad. Sorry.)

Found You, Asshole: Preschool Tea Party Massacre

And here is another new column for you avid Powerviolence readers... In "Found You, Asshole", we'll introduce you to random bands to check out, that we found while searching the interweb. Pretty much just shining a spotlight on underground or unsigned acts...

SO. Our first installment highlights a group that caught my eye on myspace while i was bored at work looking for new grindcore acts.... Thus, I found Preschool Tea Party Massacre. Check them out here. I don't know much on these guys, other than what is spelled out for me from their page (and some porno-myspace profile of theirs). What lured me in went well beyond the intriguing four tracks they had available to preview. More so, it was the sheer volume of content that their page was spewing forth.... for an unsigned band, i was surprised at the banner ads, contact tables, what looks like four EP's (available for free download), two LP's (for download through paypal), desktop wallpapers, and buddy icons... these guys are truly grabbing the grindcore marketing bull by the scrote.

And this all seems to be working for them quite well, judging by the presence of their rabid fanbase... There are the typical adornments that you might expect from an act like this, stage names for the band members, tongue in cheek humor when at all possible, etc... But I think the most noteworthy part of this band's agenda is the fact that no band photos exist at all... trust me, I searched... but instead, we are barraged with photos of young girls, scantily clad, with "PTPM" scrawled somewhere on their exposed flesh (see below) ... The band even calls out on their site for more to be sent to them, and i doubt the call will go unheard. So, long story short, marketing skills obviously win in this case...

Oh, and they also love Danny Glover... but then again, who wouldn't.

Get the Fuck Back Together, Idiots: Bear Vs. Shark

Here's a new column, where we decide to let bands know that they should stop the bullshit and get back together... quitting is for rehab and At the Drive In.

So! Bear Vs. Shark... On December 21, 2005 the band posted on their website and myspace that they decided to call it quits. Although the band didn't cite any specific reason for the break up, their guitarist was featured in Alternative Press where he did a piece on the hardships of touring extensively... A topic the band has been very vocal on.............. oh, wah.

Get it together, jerks... Touring sucks, and you just gotta deal with it. Obviously, there are ways to make it easier or more tolerable (how the hell do thousands of bands do it every year??)... Regardless, you made two ridiculously great albums, so reassemble BvS, get back in the studio, and start making some more face-melting, intelligent, uncompromising, and unique blasts of sweetness.

Shit's Got A Facelift!

If anyone saw this page at all during the day today, I completely apologize.. I'm working my damndest now at trying to figure out how to make this thing look quasi-alright... I think I'm at mildly sexy, pretty close to gnarly goodness, but I ain't stopping 'til I hit full-throttle barn-burning powerviolence.

So anyway, enjoy the birth of your new morning routine, and celebrate the inception of "Gunface Talks Powerviolence".

Have fun and let us know what you think.

ciao, bella.

Featured DVD: ETID - "Shit Happens"

" 'Shit Happens' is appropriately titled, as shit does indeed happen on the road, as is one of the best things about being in a band and how ridiculous touring can be. The DVD follows the band on tour over the last few years, mainly focusing on their latest jaunt out on the Vans Warped Tour.

"Shit Happens" captures the humor of the band, and what I have always appreciated about Every Time I Die; their fuck you, "look how much fun we are having" attitude. After years of controversy, as the band used to be well known for bailing on shows at the last minute, and being assholes to amuse themselves. "Shit Happens" is a entertaining look at the good times of being in a band, at the level of success to allow them to get away with what every kid in a band dreams to attain. The bottom line, if you like ETID, then you will love this DVD." ~ N. Shannon

And for further emphasis, one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life... I'm sorry, this video clip makes me almost piss my with powerviolence every time i see it...

Every Time I Die [DVD Clip] - "Ha Ha"

Important Moments in Powerviolence - Dillinger @ Virgin in Times Square

We here in the Powerviolence camp have seen plenty of extremely fierce sets in our day, but stumbling around the interweb, I came across what could quite possibly be the most brutal show opening ever recorded to tape. Watch this clip, filmed from a balcony in the Virgin Megastore in Times Square, NYC.

Mind you, the most intriguing part of this video is not what you're about to see, but the fact that it is taking place at a Tsunami Relief Benefit Concert.

To Greg Puciato, I would gladly let you run on my face to save the endangered tsunamis... And that's a fact!

Dillinger Escape Plan - "Sugar Coated Sour" (live)

Featured Site: last.fm

With Myspace slowly taking over the world, people are starting to try and cash in on the whole personal internet profile deal. Most sites come nowhere near the popularity that Myspace has achieved, but that's because they are all essentially the same thing, and if everyone already has a Myspace profile, nobody is going to set up a new on and try to get their friends onto some other site that is no different. Enter last.fm. This U.K. based site is actually pretty gnarly; it takes the idea of having a profile page (although with far less features than Myspace, but still holding onto friends, comments, messages, etc.) and adds an emphasis on music.

Almost every band ever has a page on last.fm, with most offering songs to give a listen. But what makes the site so cool is what is called "scrobbling." By downloading a program given by the site and syncing it with whatever music player you use on your computer, it posts the songs you have recently listened to onto your profile page. It also shows what music your friends have been jamming out to. Every week the site also calculates your most listened to music and assigns you 100 "neighbors," who are people with similar musical tastes. You can access their profiles and see what they have been playing as well, allowing you to discover new music, which is the purpose of the site. Every band's page also has a list of similar artists, and surprisingly, the lists are pretty good. You won't get Thursday on the list if you are listening to Saetia, since the tags assigned to the bands are set by those using the site, and most are pretty particular.

Other features include a comprehensive calendar for finding shows in your area, allowing a special place to give people music recommendations, a list of music you have tagged, a list of shows you are going to or went to, an area showing your most listened to band or song, and much more. There is too much to explain here, so I say check it out for yourself if you are into music, which you probably are.

So Sick It Hurts: Kill the Client - "Wage Slave"

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Clocking in at just over 14 minutes with 11 tracks, Kill the Client's "Wage Slave" is out to destroy you quickly and ferociously. In true grindcore fashion, these guys make sure to bring the thrash riffs and blast-beats we all know and love, leaving our brains splattered around the insides of our cabesas.

While the Dallas, Texas band does not bring the level of technicality of some of the grind being produced these days, they are consistently heavy and full, with no downtime spent on tricky guitar-play. It's just pummel, pummel, pummel, and sometimes that's all you're looking for. Of course the presence of insane vocals are always needed, and one will not be disappointed when giving this release a listen. The growls are great, and the screams are even better, although they are used a lot less.

Overall, this is a killer album and should be given a listen by anyone into heavy music in general. It's not the best out there, but it still delivers a heaping dose of eardrum destruction.

Important Moments in Powerviolence - Napalm Death

Perhaps you are confused about Napalm Death. Maybe you forgot that this British band have been pounding away since 1982, that their 1987 debut, Scum, set a standard of brutal grindcore for an entire generation.... That's all fine and good, but in our first installment of important moments in powerviolence, we would like to focus on something WAY more important (in our opinion)...

Our first important moment is the fact that they hold the world record for shortest song—the 1.316-second “You Suffer,” sharing that Guinness Book of World Records glory right alongside the world’s largest accordion and Radhakant Bajpai’s 5.19” ear hair. Now please do not disregard them without truly appreciating the creative toil that goes into such an accomplishment.

So, in honor of this important moment, we suggest listening to "You Suffer" 456 times in the next ten minutes .... do your ears a favor... they'll thank you.

Napalm Death. World Record champion of powerviolence.

Now thank them.

So Sick It Hurts: Clutch - "From Beale Street to Oblivion"

"It was once said that 200 Clutch fanatics lived in every big city, leaving the rest of the world oblivious to their funk rock charms and hilarious lyrics. Like Tool, they are adored by heavy rock fans but stand out with their underlying groove, infectious melodies and former teacher Neil Fallon's biblical and sci-fi themed lyrics, which he delivers like a feverish preacher. By combining bluesy guitars and Hammond organ, dinosauric riffs and thunderous drumming, their seventh album lives up to its name. Think Henry Rollins fronting '60s stoner rockers Blue Cheer, mixed with some southern-fried boogie and a twist of metal. It's taken the Maryland quintet 15 years of solid touring to become this good, so jump on board." ~ theage.com

So Sick It Hurts: The Jonbenet - "The Plot Thickens"

"Bottom Line: The Plot Thickens is a surprisingly creative and adept entry into the ever-growing field of bands playing non-conventional hardcore or whatever it's called now. The frantic energy of the Jonbenet, coupled with their songwriting ability, makes this a difficult disc to stop listening to. The Jonbenet has geniusly crafted one of this year’s best soundtracks to out-right anarchy." ~ decoymusic.com

Featured Site - Hot Chicks with Douchebags

"This site celebrates this all-too-real phenomenon roast-style, with accompanying prose courtesy of site creator "DB1" -- a Hollywood insider who admits to daily struggles with his own douchery. Nonetheless, he's aghast that this scourge has overtaken society: "Everyone relates to the rage of seeing the hottest girl in the club cuddling with an oily, greasy, bling'd out scrote." DB1's protest page lets you dive into an overabundance of hair product and tight pink Polos, submit pics of HCwDs, comment on those already posted, and vote for the week's foulest hottie/herb pairing -- hopefully to the great shame of Greicos, tonguebags, Fezzes, and New Jersey's male population. As the number of HCwDs grows, so too will the site's influence -- they already boast commenters from Japan and Europe, where even widespread bidet use has failed to curb the d-bag pandemic." ~ Thrillist 2007
